Launching Your Community Your Voice report

New LYP report reveals findings from survey of 187 local young people

We are delighted to announce the launch of Your Community Your Voice (YCYV). YCYV is a new report which compiles the findings from a survey we ran with 187 young people in Leatherhead, between May-July 2016. Our survey asked young people what life is like for them in Leatherhead; we wanted to know what issues they face, what their needs are, and how youth work can help support them.

Our report, which is available as an A4 booklet as well as via PDF, can be downloaded here: Your Community Your Voice PDF

Headline findings:

  • 35% of young people attend a youth club
  • 46% said there is not enough to do for young people in Leatherhead
  • 95 young people said they wanted more opportunities to play sport – this was the most popular activity selected when young people were asked what they wanted to do.
  • 109 young people said that Drugs are the biggest problem affecting young people in Leatherhead – that’s over half of those surveyed
  • 51% of young people said they don’t think Leatherhead is a safe place
  • 75% of young people said they do have someone to talk to when they have a problem – including teachers, family and youth workers.

What’s next?

Our team will now be working together with community partners to discuss how we can address some of the issues raised in the report. Please contact us if you would like to be involved in planning next steps.

We are always looking for volunteers who can help us with the work we do.

Suitable volunteers will need to be able to relate young people and build positive relationships with them. Please contact us for a role description and to talk more about this if you are interested in volunteering.
